Sandcastles

Logline: Estranged siblings Jess and Adam reunite at their late father's beach house for a celebration of life ceremony. As they argue over his estate and confront buried family secrets, they must decide if rebuilding their relationship is worth the pain of resurfacing old memories.

Synopsis: Jess, a 37-year-old divorced lesbian, attends her late father's celebration of life ceremony at his beach house, joined by her estranged brother, Adam, his family, their anxious mother, and her new husband. Jess hopes to inherit the beach house as a fresh start, whereas Adam hopes to inherit the beach house to rebuild his relationship with his son. As the weekend unfolds, tension rises. A failed date makes Jess realize that she hardly knew her father at all, and Adam's relationship with his son dwindles further.

When Adam discovers his mother's affair—a painful reminder of the past—the family becomes even more fractured. The chaos is interrupted by news of a powerful hurricane that forces the family inland. The close quarters force Jess and Adam to find common ground.

When the storm subsides, they go back to the beach to find their father's house destroyed.
